Cyber security...... what's the first thought came in your mind, lots of computers with some sort of algorithms and programs running in them. Do you think, cyber security is way too complex, and requires a lot of complex knowledge, programming and software, then you are correct but not 100%. Being attentive, informed, responsible and honest while using internet is what cyber security means. Though this is not the actual definition, but this is what the definition means. Well let's not crumble across the words, let's dive in what you need to know about cyber security being a responsible youth.
We live in a world which is often called information and technology age, where information and ComputerServices are freely available from any part of the World.The Internet has revolutionized the world and people have free access to whatever information they want anytime and from anywhere. Unfortunately, this has resulted in increased security concern. Security concern to our information, computer, products, and our intellectual Work. Even if we ensure not to use any external media, but if we are connected to Internet, our computer and data is still Vulnerable.
Thus it is important to know about cyber security. According to Google, In 2020, 300.6 million people were affected by data breaches and cyber crime, of which 27 million were Indian and 52% of them do not know how to protect themselves from cyber crime.
Thus it is important to know about possible threats, challenges and risks of working on Internet to ensure personal Safety and information Security. At this point the term 'cyber security' came into existence, cyber security refers to the safe and responsible use of Internet to ensure Safety and security of personal information and not Posing threat to anyone else's information.
The easiest thing that an individual can do to increase their Security and privacy is to change their passwords frequently. one can also use two-factor authentication during login. using firewall for the Computer, blocking unnecessary cookies and tracking request while browsing, ensuring 'https' and 'lock pad before accessing Websites and entering crucial information.
One Should handle e-mails carefully, and Should not open e-mail attachments from an unauthorised person, and should never share Sensitive information on wireless networks.
Due to growth of audio and Video Communication and emergence of video-sharing Platform such as Youtube, Facebook, Instagram. youth purposely post opposing, sarcastic, demeaning or insulting Comments abouth something or someone, with an aim of targeting a persion or a group of person online. This provocative message posted this way are called troll and remember trolling is a cybercrime and is closely related to cyber bullying, In fact, it is a form of cyber bullying. with immense growth of video and information sharing Platform, more and more channels and websites emerge of which some spread faise rumours to get more engagements and clicks, spreading rumour online is a cybercrime and is Punishable offence. As per ITC, Act of India, circulation/ Publication of rumours especially hurting religious sentiments is a cyber crime and may invite a fine with imprisonment upto three years. The same incident happened with paras Singh, a Gaming Youtuber with a large number of audience, has allegedly thrown racist remarks against Congress MLA, and claimed that Arunachal pradesh was not a part of India. Paras had made "racist Comments" and hurt the sentiments of Northeast, and was arrested by the police.
So before posting anything publicly, one should know the rules and regulation issued by the authority. If you are a victim of cybercrime, you must report it to parents, School authorities and then to Police, one Can also lodge an 'E-FIR: The Ministry of Home Affairs is also launching a website for registering crimes including cyber crimes.
